Chandler proclaims July 2026 Parks and Recreation Month and honors Civic program graduates

Mayor Kevin Hirtke read a proclamation declaring July 2026 as Parks and Recreation Month and invited city Parks & Recreation staff forward to accept the recognition.
"Now, therefore, I, Kevin Hirtke, mayor of the city of Chandler, hereby proclaim July 2026 as Parks and Recreation Month, and we encourage residents to explore our city's 70 parks," the mayor said as he presented the proclamation.
Brandon Putman, park superintendent, thanked the council and highlighted parks' role in community well‑being. "I just wanted to talk about the power of parks, the power of nature, within our parks, the power of community ... gathering places, and the well‑being and the recreation side of things, which brings about a healthy lifestyle," Putman said, and he encouraged residents to use parks while being mindful of summertime heat.
The council also recognized participants in Chandler's Civic program. Amelia Korjowski, assistant to the city manager, noted the program connected participants with more than 20 departments and applauded the graduates for six months of engagement. Korjowski read the names of program participants and called them forward for photos with the mayor and council member Hawkins.
The public appearances segment concluded with group photographs and brief remarks from staff and council members.
