Union City Borough Council voted Aug. 13 to hire Mansfield to repair a sinkhole and related storm‑drain infrastructure at Municipal Lot #1 at a cost of $22,295.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported that the sinkhole involves a failed 24‑inch clay tile that needs replacement. He said engineers recommended lining the pipes in four sections, reconnecting pipes to the 24‑inch line, replacing the adjacent catch basin with a larger unit, and replacing approximately 10 feet of pipe. Two written estimates were presented: Mansfield, $22,295, and McLallen Construction, $23,450; both bids required the borough to provide a truck during the work.
Councilor Steadman moved to accept Mansfield’s bid and Councilor Osborn seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The minutes do not record a project start date, contractor schedule, or source of funds for the work.
The action follows routine stormwater maintenance and aims to repair a failing segment of pipe to protect Municipal Lot #1 and the municipal authority infrastructure it connects to.
