Council discusses zoning changes for skill games, pools and removable sheds; parking ordinance revisions planned

Union City Borough Council on July 9 discussed multiple proposed ordinance changes, asking the solicitor to draft amendments and asking staff for technical counts.
Council reviewed proposed language related to skill games of chance (previously presented and approved in form), then discussed new proposals to allow above-ground pools on adjoining vacant lots and to permit removable sheds up to 144 square feet if placed on a gravel base, skids or pillars; no set-backs on the adjoining property line would be required while front-yard set-backs would still apply. Solicitor Tim Wachter was asked to draft suggested amendments to the zoning ordinance for council review.
On parking, council revisited proposed changes to Municipal Lot #2 including a plan to remove front-end parking and evaluate angled parking; the Street Supervisor was directed to calculate how many spaces angled parking would provide, and the Solicitor will prepare a proposed amended parking ordinance for final council review.
Council also approved a feasibility study for a school crossing and agreed to use WRA, LLP—the county’s appointed engineer—for required engineering work.
No final ordinance language or effective dates were adopted on July 9; council directed staff and the solicitor to prepare draft amendments for a future meeting.
