Board honors student state champions and SkillsUSA winners

The Board of Education recognized dozens of Charles County students on June 22 for state‑level achievements in athletics, unified track and career‑technical competitions.
Richard Pioli, director of student activities, athletics and aquatics, read the names of state champions across several high schools and thanked coaches for their roles in the success. The board and district presented certificates from Charles County Commissioners and the Board of Education.
Sandy Rooney highlighted two SkillsUSA Maryland gold medalists who qualify to represent the district at national events. Simone Young recognized first‑place MESA winners for projects including a solar‑powered trash‑collecting car and a storybook‑theme‑park engineering project from elementary grades.
Board members and executive staff congratulated students, coaches and school leaders. The recognitions were presented before the formal business portion of the work session.
