Inland Wetlands agency schedules public hearing on bank repair at 133 East Weatogue Street

The Simsbury Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency voted April 21 to deem Application CC #26-04 significant and schedule a public hearing for a proposed erosion-repair project at 133 East Weatogue Street.

Assistant Town Planner Brittany MacGilpin and applicant Kathleen MacQuattie provided an overview of the proposal, which seeks a wetland permit to reestablish a bank that has eroded along a brook on the property in the town's R-40 zone. Commissioners pressed for additional details about how close the work would come to the watercourse, what stabilization methods would be used, and whether alternative repair options had been fully explored.

Vice Chair Jason Levy moved that the agency deem the application significant because it involves work in the watercourse; Commissioner Michael Luzietti seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously (6-0-0). The board directed that a public hearing be scheduled at the earliest meeting the applicant can attend.

The decision to require a public hearing means the application will receive a formal hearing and an opportunity for public comment before the agency takes a final permit action. The meeting minutes do not list a date for the hearing; that detail will be set when the applicant confirms availability.
