Board approves $215,000 ODOT agreement for erosion mitigation along county right-of-way

The Josephine County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on May 14, 2026, to approve an intergovernmental agreement with the Oregon Department of Transportation for $215,000 to mitigate erosion and clean a creek located within state right-of-way.
Neil Burgess, the county engineer, told the board there is "right of way money to mitigate erosion, and to clean a creek up," and that the project is currently in preliminary design, is being designed by ODOT, and does not at present require permitting. Burgess also said the adjacent property is privately owned and scheduled for auction.
Commissioner Colene Martin moved to approve Agreement No. 73000-0057930 in the amount of $215,000; Commissioner Gary Richardson seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Richardson — yes; Martin — yes; Smith — yes.
The agreement funds a multi-year project intended to address erosion in the state-owned right-of-way. The county’s role will be coordination while ODOT leads design; any subsequent permitting or additional approvals would be addressed if and when required by the project schedule.
