Simsbury commission reviews budget update, vendor news and Friends-funded projects

The Simsbury Culture, Parks and Recreation Commission received multiple operational updates on May 7, including a town budget timeline, vendor feedback, and community-program metrics.
Director Tom Tyburski told commissioners the town referendum on the FY2027 budget is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, and said Simsbury’s proposed tax increase is smaller than neighboring towns. Tyburski also noted a $40,000 expense from Simsbury Farms reserves that would allow for additional clubhouse and patio improvements.
Tyburski reported favorable early results from the new restaurant vendor at Simsbury Farms and encouraged commissioners to visit. He said season pool pass sales are up by 46 compared with the same point last year; the posted pass price will increase after May 31.
The commission was briefed on recently approved Friends of Simsbury Farms donations supporting local projects: $10,000 for Summer Blast fireworks; $15,000 for an LCD messaging sign at Golf Road/Pool & Rink parking; $15,000 for tee leveling (in addition to a previously approved $5,000); $6,000 for tree pruning; $3,000 for a portable sound system; $20,000 for an aerator and electrical work to address a pond-health issue at hole #15; and $30,000 for shade sails at the golf patio.
Tyburski also summarized turnout for recent community programs: 73 registered participants (plus about 10 walk-ups) for Community Clean Up Day; roughly 350 children at the junior flashlight egg hunt and about 600 at the older-kids event. He said summer hiring is complete and staff are in training; event details for the summer season will be released soon.
The commission adjourned at 7:00 p.m.; its next scheduled meeting is Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Town Hall Main Meeting Room.
