The Simsbury Board of Selectmen voted 5–1 on May 11 to authorize the Pride flag to be raised outside Town Hall for the month of June.
The board adopted the Pride Month proclamation and then approved a separate motion to have the flag flown, with Mike Paine, Diana Yeisley, Wendy Mackstutis, Steve Antonio and Curtis Looney voting in favor and Kevin Beal opposed. "While I support the flying of the flag, I feel there needs to be a debate and policy on where and when flags should be flying outside of Town Hall," Beal said.
First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis and other members supported the proclamation and the flag‑raising as a recognition of Pride Month; the board approved the measure after discussion. The vote followed several ceremonial proclamations adopted at the start of the meeting, including Bike Month and Accessibility Awareness Month.
The decision establishes the June flag display for 2026; Selectman Beal asked the board to consider drafting a formal policy to guide future flag displays at municipal property. The board did not set a timeline for creating such a policy during the meeting.
