The Adams County Board of Supervisors voted to re-advertise the county-administrator position for two additional weeks after members raised concerns that the initial posting included incorrect dates and was publicly correct for only a short window.
Board members said the vacancy coincides with budget season and argued for clear, legally compliant advertising to ensure qualified applicants. Several supervisors said they received applications after staff corrected the posting on county channels and on Indeed, but others said the earlier error created an appearance of unfairness and favored re-advertising.
County staff told the board the posting was corrected on June 5 and that additional applications were received after the correction. Supervisors emphasized the need for a candidate with a strong finance background to lead the upcoming budget work and discussed options for the current interim staff to assist through the budget cycle. One supervisor proposed that the incumbent administrative staff remain available through the budget process to ensure continuity while the county hires a replacement.
After discussion, the board approved the motion to readvertise the job and directed staff to repost the vacancy for two weeks and to distribute the listing on the county website, Indeed and the usual municipal channels.
The board also discussed internal process improvements for future postings and asked staff to confirm multi-channel publishing and a consistent two-week posting window for executive-level positions. The board did not change compensation or other position details at the meeting. The decision to re-advertise was procedural; no candidate was selected and no personnel action was taken at the session's close.
The board will reconvene and consider applicants after the re-advertising period ends.
