Owner seeks county landmark status for Montrose; HPC to seek interlocal agreement with Hillsborough

Staff reported that the owner of Montrose (the Gov. Graham House, grounds and outbuildings) has expressed interest in applying for county historic landmark designation. Because the property lies within the Town of Hillsborough’s extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ), staff said the county will need to consult with Hillsborough and pursue an interlocal or intergovernmental agreement before the county can designate the property as a county landmark.
Staff said a site visit is scheduled and that staff will prepare a presentation for the commission at a future meeting; commissioners suggested April as a good time for a full tour.
No formal action or motion was taken; staff will report back with findings from the site visit and any recommended next steps.
