Board approves parks events, waives fee for softball group and hires three part‑time workers

The Frankfort Board of Works approved several parks requests and personnel actions during its meeting. Mayor Sheets and councilmembers approved rescheduling the Doerner Park block party to July 8 and a street closure for pedestrian safety, and they granted a fee waiver so Frankfort Softball can hold its awards banquet at Prairie Creek Park on Aug. 8.
Emily, a parks department staff member, told the board the original block party date was canceled because of weather and that organizers requested the change to July 8; she said the closure of Clay Street is needed because attendees will walk across the street. Emily also asked the board to waive the event center fee for the Frankfort Softball banquet and said the pavilion is complete.
In personnel business, the board approved hiring three part‑time parks laborers: Keegan Myers; Morris Carter (rehire); and Alan Mahan. Emily said two positions are year‑round part time and one is seasonal; she told the board the new hires had passed drug tests and are scheduled to start the following day.
Clerk Carol conducted roll calls for these items. For the June 8 minutes the board approved the minutes with Mayor Sheets and Greg Miller voting Aye and Jim Skinner abstaining; the June 17 special‑meeting minutes and the claims register were approved unanimously.
The approvals were procedural and required no further action beyond implementation by parks staff and the clerk’s office.
