Massapequa board previews 2026–27 districtwide safety plan; 30‑day public comment to begin

District staff presented the first draft of the Massapequa Union Free School District’s 2026–27 districtwide safety plan at the June 25 board meeting and said the public‑facing version would be posted the following day for a 30‑day comment period.

The presentation outlined the plan’s development by the districtwide school safety team, which includes cabinet members, building principals, parent volunteers and a student representative. Staff thanked long‑standing volunteers and first responders who contribute to school safety work and noted that building‑level confidential plans for emergency response will be reviewed by principals in late June and early July.

Staff said the latest draft formalized a transportation annex and included a cardiac emergency response plan added this year. The presenter explained that the district’s public plan is separate from confidential building plans and that the state will open the building plans for review with principals later in the summer. Staff said the district’s transition to a new online meeting platform will not change archival access to previous materials.

The board did not vote on the safety plan at the meeting; staff said the 30‑day comment period will allow the community to review and submit recommendations before the board considers adoption at a future meeting. The district named Mr. Ruff and transportation staff as instrumental in drafting the transportation annex.
