Committee votes to enroll Kelly Fire Lane as county forest road and send resolution to County Board

The Oneida County Forestry, Land & Recreation Committee voted unanimously June 2 to approve a resolution to enroll Kelly Fire Lane as a county forest road and forward the measure to the County Board.
Forestry staff member Nemec told the committee that after the Town of Little Rice abandoned the road that provides access to Kelly Fire Lane, the department recommends enrolling the road in the county forest road inventory so the county can collect gas tax funds and retain the ability to block access during spring breakup. Committee Chair Robert Almekinder said he had received several calls from residents concerned about restricting access.
Committee member Sorgel moved to approve the proposed resolution; Schultz seconded the motion and all members voted aye. The unanimous vote sends the resolution to the County Board for final action.
Enrollment in the county forest road inventory would permit the county to use state gas tax funds for maintenance and to implement seasonal access controls staff described as necessary for spring breakup and resource protection. The committee did not set a date for County Board consideration at the meeting.
The committee had no public comment on the item and moved on to routine business.
