Trustees hear building department updates; McGrath’s expansion raises parking and permit questions

Building Department staff briefed the Board on a range of permitting and code issues during the June 15 work session, including several downtown developments that will require follow‑up.
The department reported a demolition permit issued for the canopy and gas station equipment at a 7‑11/Sunoco site (permit pending and fee paid for other work). Multi‑family and rental inspections are underway, plan reviews and nuisance follow‑ups continue, and a backlog of open building permits is being addressed.
Notably, McGrath’s has proposed an upstairs expansion that the minutes record as a revised plan indicating a 207‑person occupancy and a 119‑seat restaurant. The Board was informed that the intensification raises parking implications and that a Special Use permit application will be needed. Other updates included ongoing construction at Toretta Estates, a certificate of occupancy issued for a coffee shop on June 11, the nearly complete chicken restaurant in Marquis Plaza, and a building permit issued for The Saint at 195 Main Street for a facade project with interior alteration permits to follow.
The Board did not take final action on any of the building items during the work session; staff will follow up on required special permits, parking studies and outstanding plan reviews.
