The Stonecrest City Council voted on June 22 to appoint Malden & Jenkins as the city's auditing firm pending review and approval of a contract, a move staff said is intended to complete outstanding audits for fiscal years 2023–2026 and restore the city to an annual audit cycle.
City Manager Katherine Turner told the council the objective is "to complete the outstanding audits, restore compliance, strengthen financial transparency, improve public confidence and position the city for future grant opportunities." The firm presented a proposed timeline calling for completion of the FY2023 audit by December 2026, FY2024 by February 2027, FY2025 by June 2027 and FY2026 by September 2027, contingent on timely delivery of requested documentation.
Council members asked about the firm's staffing and whether Stonecrest would have a dedicated audit team; the firm said a focused engagement team would work on overlapping years where feasible to accelerate delivery. Council also voted to remove the prior auditor (Tab & Tab) and to appoint Malden & Jenkins pending contract negotiation and legal review (4–0).
Councilmembers signaled support for allocating resources if needed to accelerate completion of audits, and staff said they would provide regular milestone updates to council as work proceeds. The appointment is conditioned on contract review and finalization by the city attorney and administration.
