Gladwin council approves appointments, street closures, grant administrator and HHW plan

At its June 15 meeting the Gladwin City Council approved multiple routine items including appointments, street closures, a grant administrator and a city-supported Household Hazardous Waste Day.
The council approved the appointment of Austin Vollmering to the Downtown Development Authority for a four-year term ending May 6, 2030, and reaffirmed Council Member Esiline's appointment to the Fair Board, backdated to the March 17, 2026 meeting (motion: Darlington; support: Esiline). The council also approved street closures for the Gladwin County Fair Parade on July 5, 2026, and for the Summer Street Fest on July 11, 2026.
City Administrator Kimberly Hines said three requests for qualifications were issued to find a CDBG grant administrator for the community center project; two firms declined and Hager Consulting LLC submitted a proposal. Council approved Hager Consulting LLC as grant administrator (motion: Caffrey; support: Platt).
Hines also provided preliminary information about a tiered Household Hazardous Waste Day (HHWD) for township and city participation, noted a donation from Invenergy and said the city plans to ask the county to contribute; the available date discussed for the event is Sept. 19, 2026, and the council agreed to proceed.
Other routine business included approval of warrants totaling $141,789.24 for the period June 2 through June 15, 2026.
