The Park City Council used part of its June 23 meeting to honor Captain Hobart Capps of the Park City Police Department, who will retire June 26 after more than 37 years of service.
The police chief told the council that Capps began with the department as a volunteer reserve officer in 1988, became a full-time officer in 1989 and rose through ranks including investigator, sergeant, lieutenant and captain. "Please join me in thanking Captain Capps for his outstanding contributions to the city of Park City and in wishing him every success and happiness in retirement," the chief said.
During public forum, Javan Fast, who identified himself as a 100% disabled veteran and Park City resident, suggested the city consider patriotic crosswalks or flag-themed sidewalk painting for the town’s upcoming July observances and the nation’s 250th anniversary. "I think that we could probably do a little bit more patriotism for the surrounding area," Fast said, noting he did not expect work to be completed in time for July 4 but proposing the idea for future consideration.
Council members thanked Captain Capps and acknowledged Fast’s suggestion; no formal action on sidewalk treatments was taken at the meeting.
