The J O Combs Unified School District governing board approved a district novel list on June 24 that staff said was developed during a recent board retreat and compiled into a master list for classroom use.
A staff presenter told the board the list consolidates topics discussed at the retreat and will serve as the primary reference for teachers when selecting supplemental novels. "This is the list that we worked on in our retreat... it's a compilation of our discussion," the presenter said.
A motion to approve the novel list was made, seconded and passed by a 4–0 vote.
What happens next: staff will circulate the approved list to teachers and incorporate it into curriculum guidance; the board did not alter the list during the meeting.
