Greeneview Local adopts electronic-equipment policy and handbook updates; Chromebook fee for grade 4 removed

The Greeneview Local Board of Education approved new policy changes June 25, including a new electronic-equipment policy (board policy 5136.01) intended to supplement existing personal-communication-device rules and restrict emerging wearable devices.
Superintendent Dr. Wingerd told the board the policy is intended to "eliminate all, as they would call it, electronic equipment" beyond standard personal devices, citing recent advances in smart technologies such as "meta glasses." The policy was listed as new-business item A and was approved along with other handbook revisions.
The board also approved student meal prices for 2026–27 with no changes to last year: high school and middle school lunch $3.45, elementary lunch $3.20, breakfast $1.40 and milk $0.55. Dr. Wingerd additionally said there will be no Chromebook fee for fourth grade going forward; the district plans to phase one-to-one device distribution in beginning in grade five.
As required by Ohio law, Dr. Wingerd also delivered the district's bullying and harassment report for 2025–26 second semester: high school — three bullying investigations (none confirmed) and zero harassment investigations; middle school — five bullying investigations (three confirmed) and seven harassment investigations (five confirmed); elementary school — no investigations reported.
Board members approved a package of handbook and policy changes that included edits to the cell-phone policy, library and maker-space expectations, lockers and backpacks, internet-use policy, AI and related tools, dress code, and stronger language on bullying and harassment incidents. The board approved the new-business items as presented.
