KANAB, Utah — The Kanab City Council on April 14 declared roughly 410 square feet of city-owned property adjacent to Honey’s Marketplace (parcel K-B-12-9) as surplus and authorized staff to pursue a property trade agreement with the adjacent property owner to realign parcel boundaries to match existing parking and sidewalk improvements.
City Manager Kyler Ludwig told the council that during construction review for Tesla electric vehicle charging stations it was identified that the current parcel boundaries did not align with improvements. The proposed exchange would convey approximately 410 square feet to the property owner in exchange for about 28 square feet to the city; exact valuation and any compensation will be determined by appraisal or negotiation. Staff reported no utility or roadway concerns and noted the area is paved and historically used as part of the adjacent parking area.
Council later approved a related full boundary adjustment—submitted by Iron Rock Engineer on behalf of A.I.E. Investments LLC—to adjust the west property line to the back of the sidewalk along 250 East. During the public hearing, resident Patty Kubeja voiced support for the adjustment.
Councilmember Heaton recused from both the surplus-declaration and trade-authorization votes. Resolutions and motions passed with the remaining members voting in favor (Corry, Shrope, Banks; Chamberlain absent). Council authorized staff to execute a property trade agreement and to record the survey-based boundary adjustment.
