Readfield treasurer: motor vehicle revenue rebounds; total receipts slightly down for May

Eric Dyer, the town treasurer, presented the financial report for May at the June 22 meeting, saying motor vehicle revenue posted a roughly 9.5% gain for the month and is up about 7.6% year‑to‑date. Dyer said total receipts for the month were down just under 3% while year‑to‑date receipts were up about 4.6%.

Dyer told the board that many departments remain within budget ranges (most at around 80–90% of expected expenditures) and that transportation station fees and certain motor vehicle collections are positive trends. He described real estate payments for the month as ‘‘muted’’ compared with expectations and flagged small, localized differences in tax payment timing that have affected month‑to‑month comparisons.

Board members asked for clarification on whether payment timing or underlying declines explained the shortfall; Dyer described the shortfall as modest and possibly timing‑related. He said June reporting (the next month’s report after fiscal year close) will provide a clearer picture of year‑end balances.
