Committee approves consultant invoices and advances transfer station from schematic design to design development

At the June 23 meeting the Ice one Building Committee approved three consultant invoices and voted to advance the transfer station from schematic design into design development.

The committee approved Western Samson invoice #26060993 for $136,666.79, described as payment for remaining schematic design and portions of architectural programming. It also approved an Office and Maintenance Garage invoice from Palmer Associates (invoice 25.124.1-06) for $23,521.60 covering early construction-period services and mobilization, and a Palmer Associates invoice for the transfer station (25.124.206) for $8,010 for design-development work. Motions to approve each invoice were moved, seconded and passed with members present voting yes.

On the transfer station, project staff reported schematic design was complete and recommended moving into design development. The team said construction documents are targeted between October and December, with bidding planned around the end of the year. A schematic estimate received by the team placed the building in the neighborhood of $15 million; staff noted the estimate would be refined in design development. The committee voted to approve schematic design and formally authorize the team to proceed into design development.

Schedule note: the Office of Maintenance project has a notice to proceed dated May 15 with a 365-calendar-day contract duration and a projected completion date of May 15, 2027.

Next steps: the design team will circulate a refined transfer station cost estimate at the next meeting, continue permitting and site-assignment work, and proceed with design-development deliverables for bidding later in the year.
