Paynesville extends public works director's contract after closed-session evaluation

Dan stepped into some fairly entrenched shoes ... there are some growing pains," the mayor said in summarizing the closed-session outcome; the council also noted Dan's recent actions demonstrated responsiveness.
Theelen moved to extend Dan's employment contract for one year, Jan. 1'Dec. 31, 2026; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Council discussed but did not adopt a shorter probationary approach; members said that ongoing performance issues can be addressed administratively if they recur.
Later in the meeting the council also held a closed session to evaluate the city administrator (Tar) and reported a positive evaluation on returning to open session.
