Town staff presented a priorities matrix derived from a January retreat and asked the board whether to remove or reclassify a set of items. The board agreed to move item 14 (a land evaluation related to water/wastewater infrastructure) to an intermediate timeframe, remove item 16, and add a townwide tree-planting strategy, a navigable waterways ordinance review, a comprehensive capital improvement plan review and an updated roadway/asphalt assessment.
On housing, several commissioners asked staff to continue coordination with the Beaufort Housing Authority (BHA) and consider workforce/achievable housing as part of economic development and CIP planning; the mayor said the town maintains an open-door relationship with the BHA and staff will invite BHA leadership for periodic updates.
At the same meeting, Adam Berger of F3 Marina reported that while May year-to-date revenue lagged budget by roughly $240,000, the Big Rock fishing tournament and June fuel sales (reported as about 141,000 gallons and an estimated ~$750,000 in June fuel revenue) are expected to push the marina's fiscal-year performance above budgeted goals. Berger said operating expenses have generally been under budget and that preliminary June results are strong.
Why it matters: The priorities matrix sets the town's near-term implementation agenda (capital planning, infrastructure studies, and public-safety/environmental reviews). F3 Marina’s revenue update signals greater-than-expected local economic activity tied to events and marina services.
