Dubois County Solid Waste board approves April and May claims; reviews budget timeline and staff changes

The Dubois County Solid Waste Management District Board of Directors met May 18 and authorized payment of routine claims for April and May, the board was told the district’s 2025 annual financial report has been filed with the State of Indiana, and officials reviewed staffing and budget timelines.
On a motion by Board Member Ken Sicard, seconded by Serice Stenftenagel, the board approved payment of April claims totaling $5,234.43 and May claims totaling $3,796.06. Controller Martha A. Wehr had provided the board with the checking account balance before the meeting; after those payments the balance will be $124,780.72. The claims list included invoices to InTech Environmental LLC, WM Corporate Services, Dubois-Spencer Publishing Co., Verizon Wireless and other vendors.
District Director Carla Strieger-Winner reviewed the district’s activities for 2025 and said the 2025 Annual Financial Report has been filed with the State of Indiana. She also told the board that the current sanitation-district driver is retiring effective June 5 and that she is working to fill the position.
On budgeting, Strieger-Winner said the proposed 2027 budget will be available for board review between June 5 and June 8 so members can examine it before the board’s next regular meeting on June 15. She reported there were no new updates on two grant applications with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management: the IDEM Waste Tire Grant 2025 and the IDEM Community Recycling Grant Program (CRGP); both remain in process.
The board approved the minutes of its March 16, 2026 meeting on a motion by Chad A. Blessinger, seconded by Serice Stenftenagel. The meeting adjourned at 8:16 a.m.
Next steps: the board will review the 2027 budget materials when provided between June 5 and June 8 and reconvene at 7:30 a.m. on June 15 in the 1st Floor Conference Room of the Courthouse Annex.
