Coralville — The City Council on April 14 approved a one‑year license agreement to host a temporary cell tower to support MidAmerican Energy’s relocation of a high line.
City Administrator Kelly Hayworth described the arrangement as a short‑term solution: the temporary tower will be mounted on the back of a flatbed with the cab removed, and the license will run for one year while users seek a permanent tower location. "This license agreement will be for one year and the temporary cell tower will be on the back of a flatbed and they would take the semi cab away after it is placed," Hayworth said. He added the arrangement gives the company time to secure a permanent site or use an existing permanent tower.
Council adopted Resolution No. 2026‑50 approving the license agreement. The measure was introduced by Peterson and seconded by Vogelzang and declared adopted on roll call.
What’s next: The one‑year license provides temporary access for relocation work; staff noted a possibility the user could find a permanent location sooner than the license end date.
