Commissioners heard an update on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) emergency planning during the May 18 meeting.
Commissioner Chad A. Blessinger reported on a meeting with Emergency Management Agency staff and AES about fire safety for BESS installations and said the county discussed an emergency response plan. He also referenced an independent plume study performed by a third party; Blessinger said the study's findings are based on worst-case scenarios and that the study is ongoing. Commissioner Hostetter, reporting on the EMA Advisory Board, listed related items including the 2025 SHSP and EMPG grants, EDP and Crossvine Solar Park projects, BESS fire-department preparations, and the IPAWS public-warning system.
During public comment, a resident requested a copy of the plume study. The county did not provide the study at the meeting; staff said they would review and follow up as appropriate.
