Cemetery Committee accepts annual report and hears updates on headstone repairs, contractor work

The Cemetery Committee voted to accept its annual cemetery report and spent much of the meeting reviewing recent headstone repairs, contractor billing issues and planned work for the coming fiscal year.
The committee accepted the May 21, 2026 minutes and then heard a detailed parks-and-grounds update. Parks and Grounds staff reported that Beyond the Gravestone completed repairs at Willox Cemetery over the last two to three weeks and that Randall Nelson has installed two stones at Maple Hill Cemetery and is working on additional placements. "He has completed from there," the Parks and Grounds presenter said of the Beyond the Gravestone work, and committee members praised the visible improvements.
The presenter outlined outstanding contractor business and payments. She said invoices for Beyond the Gravestone and for Nelson have been paid, while a remaining payment to Will will be sent after July 1. On a separate project, Tad Masonry quoted about $7,500 to rebuild two pillars at Christian Lane Cemetery; the presenter said the committee will issue a deposit of $4,000 and expects the pillar work to be completed around Sept. 1. "He is going to send a deposit for us to send him out a check," the presenter said, adding that an earlier invoicing hiccup with Tad had been smoothed out.
Committee members raised scheduling and fiscal-year questions. The presenter told the group that the committee is "good to go for the next fiscal year of 27 to be able to spend up to $25,000 with Beyond the Gravestone and also with Nelson," and members discussed whether encumbrances listed as of June 25, 2026 represent current-year obligations or payments that will be made after the fiscal year closes. The presenter noted $9,600 remained in the development account and that an $8,000 grant had been received; she and other members clarified that some contractor work will be performed after July 1 even if payment is encumbered in the current fiscal year.
Members also discussed maintenance by Tinic Landscaping, noting the company has been mowing and clearing roadside strips though the transition from the original bidder (Allison) introduced some missed property familiarity; committee members said Tinic's crew leader Wayne has since been brought up to speed. The group planned targeted site visits — including Spruce Brook and Camel Back — to document remaining damage (12–18 stones at one site were noted) and to take before-and-after photos to share with affected families.
A motion to accept the annual cemetery report, required by ordinance, was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote. The meeting closed with no new business and the committee setting its next meeting for July 16.
The committee recorded no roll-call vote tallies for the minutes-acceptance or annual-report motions; outcomes were decided by voice vote during the session.
