Paynesville staff reports roughly $8 million in recent building-permit valuations; RV-storage concept plan floated

City staff gave the board an update on building permits and inspections, reporting roughly $8,000,000 in recent valuations and saying that older open permits have been largely closed out.

Jennifer (speaker 4) told the board that the recent valuations include several commercial expansions and numerous maintenance permits (windows, doors, siding and roofing) stemming partly from recent storms and subsequent insurance claims. "So a lot of growth in our city is still happening," she said, noting commercial expansions by local businesses.

Jennifer also reported that the owner of an RV-storage facility on Spruce Street (near the dental office) has renewed interest in a condominium-style plat that would divide individual garage/storage units into separately owned parcels. She said the first step would be a concept plan before the planning board and, if accepted, subsequent surveying to establish individual parcel boundaries and an association to manage common areas.

Board members asked practical questions about how the condominium-style ownership would work — whether units would remain tied to a retail business, how the association would handle common-area expenses, and how survey work would determine square footage. Jennifer said the item could appear as a concept plan on the board's December agenda if the owner proceeds.

The board did not take formal action on the RV-storage concept at this meeting; staff indicated a concept plan may be discussed at the next meeting if submitted.
