Polk County hospital reports monthly loss but fiscal-year gain; ambulance, CNA training and community events announced

Representatives from the local hospital updated the Polk County Board of County Commissioners on operations during the April 22 meeting.
Marcus Augustin and Nataly Sanley reported that although March was a good revenue month for the facility, the hospital recorded both an operating and overall loss for that month. The minutes note the facility still shows an overall gain year-to-date.
The update said the ambulance has been wrapped and work continues to prepare it for service. Hospital staff also reported the facility’s boiler recently passed inspection and that the hospital will host a Community Blood Bank blood drive on May 14.
On workforce development, the minutes say Annie Jeffrey is planning to work with Osceola Public Schools and the Polk County Health Department to offer certified nursing assistant (CNA) courses to interested students through Central Community College; students would pay the class costs. The Foundation for Annie Jeffrey reported new names added to a donor wall, held a volunteer appreciation luncheon, accepted ten scholarship applications from local high school seniors, and plans an annual golf tournament on June 20.
No vote or formal action was recorded on the hospital update; the board received the report as part of routine updates.
