Roberts Park work advances: turf infields, skate park and temporary parking closure; limited tree removals planned

Marla gave an update on Roberts Park and Rivers Edge project progress, describing completed and upcoming work and clarifying the scale of tree removals.
"If anybody's been out past there, you probably have noticed lights. So we do have lights that have been installed," Marla said, and reported that outlines for the future fields are dug.
She said the infields "will be turf" while the outfields will remain grass, which she described as a measure to reduce rain-related cancellations: "no more having to drag the fields and cancel games if it it's if the fields are too muddy or wet... because um we won't have to do that with turf."
Marla said work will begin on the soccer-complex parking lot near Veterans Drive the next week and that the lot would be closed "for probably about a month or so" as crews redo the entire lot, with the intent to complete work in time for the fall soccer season.
She also reported that groundwork for the skate park and pump track has started and that skate-park construction is expected to begin in July; that area is currently fenced off.
Regarding trees, Marla gave counts and plans: she said there are 411 trees in the park, that 30 trees in the playground area will be removed but that the project will add 35 trees, and that 10 or 11 trees will be relocated within the park. "There's actually only one possibly two trees that have to be removed on the walking path, but they are diseased infested," she said.
Officials asked park users to avoid the closed parking areas during construction; staff did not provide exact planting locations as they continue to finalize plans.
The updates drew no formal dissent; work schedules and closures were presented as operational plans to support facilities and fall athletics.
