Spencer County commissioners voted June 25 to hire Valerie Hume as the county’s new treasurer, the board’s chair announced.
The chair said the position will be full time and that Hume would start July 20 at $28 an hour, pending completion of hiring requirements. “I would like to get approval on hiring Valerie Hume for the new Spencer County Treasurer to take office on July the 20th fulltime at 28 an hour,” the chair said during the meeting.
Commissioner Zach moved to approve the hire; the motion was seconded and passed on a voice vote. The chair and other members said the timing will allow paperwork, swearing‑in and a short overlap with the current treasurer to ensure an orderly transition.
No ordinance, state statute, or external funding source was cited during the discussion. The board did not record individual roll‑call votes; the motion passed by voice vote.
