Board hears summer program enrollment and funding update; resident offers volunteer refurbishment of tennis courts

The Connersville Parks and Recreation board received reports on summer programs, food support and volunteer maintenance during its June meeting.
Superintendent Marla said the parks were "fully awarded our read community engagement funding back in May" for $30,000 and later clarified an adjustment that directs $10,000 of that amount to cover Summer Discovery lunches this season. "They offered uh 10 of that 30 to go towards the food for Summer Discovery this summer," Marla said. She added an additional local organization donated $1,200 to cover snacks. Chartwells will continue to provide meals and the parks will reimburse the cost of the meals.
Assistant Superintendent Kelly described pool operations and new offerings: late-night swim for ages 18+ drew 31 attendees the first Thursday and 69 the second, and pool cabanas have been rented almost every day. "The pool cabanas have been a great addition this summer. They've been rented out almost every day," Kelly said. Rec Director Logan said baseball, softball and tee-ball are running well, church league softball expanded to eight teams and coed registration remains open through July 10.
During the public forum, resident Judy McHeren presented before-and-after photos of volunteer work on the park tennis courts and thanked a corps of volunteers and Woodland Bible Church for equipment. "My name is Judy McHeren and I live at 714 Idlewood Drive," she said, and described a core volunteer crew and the power-washing and bench repairs they completed. She asked whether the parks department could provide green or blue surface paint and fillers or accept donated materials so volunteers could touch up the courts at the end of the tennis season.
Board members invited Judy to provide a materials list and suggested community donations could be considered. The meeting concluded after the board approved claims, including payroll, by voice vote and adjourned.
