Pelican Sound manager asks CDD to support multi-year storm surge resilience planning

Eric Long told the Board the neighborhood is developing an action plan to build resilience to storm surge and climate-driven impacts over the next five to 10 years. He recommended creation of an advisory/review panel and asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and a staff or engineering designee to coordinate when needed.
Mr. Long presented a hypothetical topographic analysis related to a past event (Hurricane Milton), saying a 10–12 foot storm surge could have inundated roughly 45%–55% of the community in that scenario. He emphasized that short-term measures (for example, 3-foot panels) would likely be inadequate and that effective mitigation would require lengthy, multi-jurisdictional work and potential funding partnerships, including with county and state agencies and the Army Corps if funding becomes available.
The Board reached consensus that Mr. Long and newly appointed Board member Keith Merrill will assist the effort and authorized District Engineer Charlie Krebs to provide technical support as necessary. No funding or formal project was approved at this meeting; the discussion was to solicit Board support and designate liaisons for coordination.
