Dawes County approves UNL Extension addendum to jointly fund educator position
Summary
The Board approved an addendum to the interlocal agreement with UNL Extension that replaces a contracted position; Dawes, Box Butte and Sheridan Counties will each pay 25% of an Educator position and UNL will pay 30%. The Board also discussed using some returned funds for a fair intern.
Representatives from UNL Extension told the Dawes County Board on Sept. 9 that an addendum to the existing interlocal agreement will replace a contracted position with a jointly funded Educator.
Melissa Mracek and Rob Eirich of UNL Extension said the cost-sharing plan splits the Educator position cost with Box Butte, Sheridan and Dawes Counties each paying 25 percent and UNL covering 30 percent; the addendum was approved by the Board. Extension staff requested the Board consider returning a portion of the contracted position funds to fund a county fair intern; Commissioner Jake Stewart said the Board would know whether that is possible after the LB644 hearing is completed.
The addendum passed by roll call with unanimous approval. Implementation details, including intern funding and timing, were discussed but not finalized.
