The Winslow Township Board of Education’s education committee reported detailed summer‑program participation and outstanding staffing needs at its June 24 meeting. Committee members said the district has 117 students enrolled in the extended‑school‑year remote program, invited 539 students to the summer learning academy with 177 having accepted (grades 1–6), and recorded 63 paid registrations for an all‑day summer camp. The district also reported 314 teachers enrolled in 22 courses offered through the summer teacher academy as of June 23.
The committee emphasized that the summer programs aim to accelerate learning and reduce chronic absenteeism. Officials said they will use district diagnostic assessment tools and weekly administrative walkthroughs during the coming year to monitor student growth in ELA and mathematics and to guide targeted instruction.
School leaders told the board that special education staffing and other administrative vacancies remain a challenge; the district listed 30 open positions across schools. Committee members said they are developing additional parent‑engagement measures and orientation steps to ease transitions between elementary, middle and high school.
Board members asked for a one‑page calendar of summer events and programming to circulate to board members and the public. The committee said it will return updates to the full board as enrollment and staffing plans evolve before the new school year.
