Abilene tourism office announces Wild Bill Hickok bronze, dedication set for Aug. 15

At the start of public comment, Julie Roller Weeks, who identified herself as the tourism director for the City of Abilene, announced that a recently rediscovered bronze sculpture of Wild Bill Hickok by the late artist David R. Young will be installed at Old Abilene Town.
The sculpture was gifted to the community by the artist's family and will serve as a companion piece to the memorial at Hickok's grave in Deadwood, S.D. Roller Weeks invited the public to Chism Trail Days on Saturday, Aug. 15, which will include a Longhorn Cattle Parade and Wild Bill Hickok reenactments; the official dedication is planned for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Old Abilene Town.
"He's really cool," Roller Weeks added while showing the commission a picture of the sculpture.
No formal action was required; the announcement was made during the public-forum portion of the meeting.
