The Cohasset City Council on May 11 voted unanimously to release a Request for Proposals for a multifamily housing project on the site of a former trailer park.
Ashley Craiglow, Community and Economic Development Associate, presented the draft RFP with support from the Minnesota Housing Partnership and recommended two minor edits (adding the year of the housing study on the first page and correcting a name spelling). Craiglow said the parcel can accommodate up to about 200 units with its existing single entrance; adding additional units would require a second road entrance. The council is in discussions with a neighboring property owner and pursuing adjacent tax‑forfeit county land that could add about 50 feet to the site to enable a second entrance.
Councilor Andy Haarklau moved to approve releasing the RFP to gauge developer interest rather than waiting for the resolution of the secondary entrance and tax‑forfeit property issues; Councilor Andy MacDonell seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Council members asked staff to review multi‑unit incentive plans used in nearby Grand Rapids to ensure the city’s solicitation remains competitive. Staff will return updates as developer responses and property negotiations proceed.
