Cohasset council approves Temetra meter‑reading software to replace aging Itron system

The Cohasset City Council on May 11 approved replacing its current Itron Field Collection System (FCS) with Temetra for gas and water meter readings, voting unanimously to accept quotes totaling $13,179.49.
City staff and Community and Economic Development Associate Ashley Craiglow said the Itron FCS will reach end‑of‑life in December 2028 and that Temetra offers a cloud‑based platform that transmits data via Wi‑Fi from mobile devices, removing the need for Ethernet connections. Council members noted Temetra’s annual renewal cost of about $4,200 is substantially lower than FCS’s roughly $10,000 annual renewal, and that Temetra is compatible with the existing meter infrastructure, avoiding immediate meter replacements.
Councilor Shannon Benolken moved to approve the Temetra conversion quotes; Councilor Andy Haarklau seconded the motion, which passed on a unanimous voice vote.
Council members also recorded that Temetra supports future ultrasonic meters through an optional security‑manager feature; the council declined to adopt that license now and will add it later only if new ultrasonic meters are purchased. Staff said adopting Temetra now avoids an installation fee and yields an initial cost savings from the competitive quote.
