Board authorizes public hearing on proposed Flying Club MOU changes

Fluvanna County staff will advertise a July 1 public hearing to consider an amendment to the MOU with the Fluvanna County Radio Control Flying Club that would remove references to a racetrack, replace the Geo-Tex landing strip with tarmac at the club’s expense, and extend the MOU term to 10 years.
The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors on June 3 authorized county staff to advertise a public hearing on July 1 to consider amending and renewing the Memorandum of Understanding with the Fluvanna County Radio Control Flying Club.
Assistant County Administrator Kelly Harris summarized the club’s requested changes: remove all references to a "racetrack" (no longer in use), replace the current Geo-Tex landing strip with a tarmac surface at the club’s expense, and extend the five-year MOU term to ten years (the club proposed a renewal through 2036). Harris said the club’s events are open to the public, have been well organized, and have benefited local animal-rescue organizations.
The board voted to authorize advertising the July 1 public hearing; the vote was recorded 3-0 with two supervisors absent. The authorization does not change the MOU; it only schedules the formal public hearing required before the board considers amending and renewing the agreement.
If the hearing proceeds, staff will present the proposed amended MOU and collect public comment before any final board action.
