Fluvanna County approves new Advanced EMT classification and FY27 personnel transfers

Fluvanna County’s Board of Supervisors on June 3 approved updates to job descriptions for emergency medical services staff that create a mid-level Advanced EMT classification and rename the top-level position to Medic.
County Administrator Eric M. Dahl told the board the changes align county job descriptions with the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services’ scope-of-practice documents and create a clear progression between EMT Basic Life Support, the new Advanced EMT role, and Medic. Dahl said four existing Department of Emergency Services staff qualify to move from EMT Basic Life Support to the new Advanced EMT classification.
The board approved a FY27 budget transfer of $16,500 from department operational lines to personnel lines, and a $10,511 transfer from Personnel Contingency to the Department of Emergency Services personnel budget, to cover the personnel cost impacts cited in the package. The motion passed on a 3-0 recorded vote; two supervisors were recorded absent.
The action formally updates position titles and pay-band alignments and directs county staff to implement the new job descriptions and corresponding payroll changes. The board did not discuss specifics of individual employee moves during the meeting.
The vote followed a presentation from the county administrator and included reference materials from the Virginia Office of EMS distinguishing certification levels.
