The Socorro City Council ratified a Federal Transit Administration Section 5310 grant award of $171,454 for the Rio Vista Transportation Program, which provides free transportation for seniors and people with disabilities. City staff reported a required local operations match of $21,794.29; most other match was covered by transit development credits. Council approved ratification and the match funding as previously authorized in the budget.
Separately, council approved entry into a FY2025 BUILD planning grant agreement from the U.S. Department of Transportation for $1,728,951 to fund the Moon Road Complete Streets planning project. City development staff said the planning project will make a 2.1‑mile stretch of Moon Road from Socorro Road to Grijalva shovel‑ready by funding community engagement, environmental analysis, engineering and benefit‑cost analysis; no local match is required. Staff estimated planning documents could be completed between fall 2027 and early 2028, with final designs ready in 12–18 months.
Both grants were approved by council vote.
