Town board updates: community center roof, skate park redesign, hazardous-waste day and parade float

Town staff and board members gave a series of routine project and community updates at the Southampton meeting.
Project manager Nick reported the West Hampton Community Center roof is roughly 90% complete, with exterior insulation, hardy-board installation and windows next; site work and water service are scheduled to follow. The Hampton Bay parking-lot reconstruction is underway with demolition, drainage and curb works; the contractor and highway staff aim to finish by the end of July.
Council members said the Red Creek Skate Park bid initially exceeded the budget, but designers revised the plan to retain the features community members prioritized while fitting the town’s funding envelope; demolition of unsafe elements has already begun.
Public-service announcements included a hazardous waste collection on June 27 at the North Sea Recycling Center for household hazardous materials. Town staff also described an in-progress float for the July 4 Southampton Village parade and announced a June 30 press conference at the Suffolk County Historical Society to highlight a locally important Revolutionary War-era flag.
Board members praised multiple departments for volunteering time on the float and noted the project is within the town budget. No formal votes were taken on the projects during the public session.
