Residents press Rome commissioners on meeting conduct, police response, public-health appointments and data-center risks

At the end of the meeting four members of the public addressed the commission with a mix of civility complaints, policing concerns and infrastructure warnings.

Shauna Bailey opened the non-agenda public-comment slot and sharply criticized how commissioners behaved in a recent meeting, asking for more respectful engagement. "It was like watching a bunch of toddlers on a playground," Bailey said, urging a public apology for what she described as treatment of a fellow speaker.

Laura Lee Glanton described ongoing difficulties getting police to retrieve home security footage she says documents assaults and other trespassing at her residence. "I literally was sexually assaulted, got it on camera. They won't pull the footage," she said, adding she had made repeated reports and felt the police were not investigating her evidence.

Kristy Minor raised questions about the process for filling a vacancy on the Floyd County Board of Public Health after Sue(ie) Twyman announced a resignation; she asked the city to publish board membership and vacancy notices on the city website and cited Georgia law on county public-health board composition. "Will the city add the public health board to its list of committees on the website including a list of all active members?" she asked.

Ron Swinford warned commissioners about an example in Florida—where a medical-imaging clinic allegedly experienced equipment problems after a hyperscale data center opened nearby—and said similar siting could affect Advent Redmond Medical Center here. He urged the commission to be proactive about potential technical or power impacts.

Commissioners closed the meeting by thanking speakers and saying they do consider public comments in their deliberations; the meeting then adjourned.
