County names HAB CRO point person, targets Bridger and Fromberg for workforce housing

The Carbon County Board of Commissioners designated Administrative Officer Angela Newell as the county point of contact for HAB CRO workforce housing efforts during its Dec. 16 meeting and said Commissioner Bill Bullock will serve as her backup.
Representatives from the Red Lodge Area Community Foundation and Beartooth RC&D briefed the commissioners on community-focused housing options. Commissioners expressed interest in concentrating potential housing on Bridger and Fromberg and said they would consult elected officials in those towns before project planning advanced. Staff noted available funding would support about nine to ten housing units whether sited in a single community or divided across two.
During the briefing, attendees said a private landowner in Joliet contacted the foundation to offer a potential site. The board took the administrative step to name Newell as the county contact so foundation staff and county staff can coordinate site evaluation, funding applications and local outreach.
What’s next: County staff will coordinate with Red Lodge Area Community Foundation, local elected leaders in Bridger and Fromberg, and potential landowners to identify qualifying properties and move forward with HAB CRO grant or application activity.
