The Carbon County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 4 approved two new legal-office job descriptions and recessed into a closed session to discuss pending litigation.
County Attorney Alex Nixon described two positions — a Legal Assistant/Witness Coordinator and a Paralegal/Office Administrator — and outlined their primary duties. Commissioner Scott Miller moved to approve both job descriptions at the administrative pay scale; Commissioner Bill Bullock seconded and the motion carried.
Nixon also reported litigation updates: he said an email from Jacque Papez provided an update on the “Matriarch” litigation and that there were two new filings in the Bennet case; Nixon said Bennet had not yet retained counsel. Following the legal update, Miller moved and Bullock seconded to close the meeting for legal discussion; the board recessed to a closed session and later reopened at 10:20 a.m.
The action gives the county new classifications intended to support legal operations and witness coordination in pending and future cases. The vote was recorded as "motion carried" in minutes; no roll-call tally was provided in the transcript.
The board’s next meeting agenda will include a point of contact designation related to a workforce housing project, indicating follow-up on administrative and community housing matters.
The meeting adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
