Resident requests $20,000 for Valley Park natural-resources plan as part of 2027 budget

Rosemary Husbands, a member of the public attending the Natural Resources Commission meeting on April 8, asked commissioners to add a $20,000 budget request to fund a parkspecific Natural Resources Management Plan for Valley Park. Natural Resources Manager Spreiter reviewed the current budget and the commission discussed extending the Landscape Ordinance Development initiative into 2027 and whether to include the requested Valley Park plan.
Commissioner McCaslin asked how much of the proposed Valley Park plan would duplicate content already in the city’s existing Natural Resources Management Plan. Commissioners and staff discussed project priorities and staff capacity for taking on additional natural-resources projects. Commissioner Knosalla suggested Manager Spreiter table the specific Valley Park request so staff can research resources and capacity before the commission acts.
At the same time, the commission discussed adding a Climate and Resilience Action Plan that could be incorporated into the 2060 comprehensive plan; no funding decision was made at the meeting. Manager Spreiter will take the Valley Park request and the broader priorities back to staff for follow-up work and reporting to the commission.
