Franklin County commissioners reorganize; Meador elected chair, Harris chosen vice chair

The meeting began at 8:30 a.m. and adjourned at 8:52 a.m.
The nominations began when Commissioner Donald Stottlemire nominated Commissioner Sabrina Meador for chair; with no other nominations, Commissioner Colton Waymire moved and Commissioner Stottlemire seconded a motion to elect Meador, which the minutes record as carrying unanimously. Later, nominations for vice chair included Commissioner Ianne Dickinson and Commissioner Rod Harris; Commissioner Meador moved and Commissioner Waymire seconded to elect Harris as vice chair, and that motion also carried unanimously.
The commissioners reviewed and approved representation on local boards and councils for 2026 as read by the Clerk. Assignments recorded in the minutes include: Colton Waymire to the East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council and the Prairie Paws Finance and Audit Committee; Sabrina Meador to the East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation and the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce meetings; Ianne Dickinson to the KS Workforce Development Board and the Franklin County Food Policy Council; Donald Stottlemire to Ransom Memorial Hospital Board meetings and the Resource Conservation & Development Board; and Rod Harris to the Lake Region Solid Waste Authority and the Neighborhood Revitalization Program Board. The board voted to approve the list as read.
The board also voted to name the Ottawa Herald as the official county newspaper. According to the meeting record, each of the procedural motions — adjournment of the prior commission session, election of leadership, approval of board appointments, designation of the official newspaper, and final adjournment — passed with unanimous votes.
