Finance committee recommends approvals for contract renewal, grants, ADA project, sewer parcel conveyance and bridge beautification

Brooklyn — The Brooklyn City Council finance committee voted to recommend a slate of actions to the full council, approving recommendations or first readings on several contracts, grants and capital items.
John Verba, director of public service, presented a request to authorize a renewal agreement with Cargle Incorporated through the Brexville Purchasing Consortium. Verba said the contract price would increase 16.29%, from $61.40 to $71.40 per ton; the proposed quantity rose from 2,400 to 2,600 tons. Under the contract the city would be required to purchase a minimum of 280 tons with a maximum of 4,160 tons. The committee moved and recorded unanimous support to recommend approval.
The committee also voted to recommend adoption under suspension for Resolution 2026-24, authorizing an agreement with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and the Brooklyn Community Improvement Corporation to convey property at the corner of Memphis and Ridge (parcel numbers given in the resolution) to permit construction of a shaft for the Big Creek interceptor project; the property would be returned to green space when work is complete.
Other measures the committee recommended include Resolution 2026-25, authorizing the city to apply for a $50,000 county supplemental grant for an exterior home repair program (the city typically provides a match); Resolution 2026-26, a request to apply for the usual $150,000 Community Development Block Grant for ADA improvements to Brack Memorial Playground (the committee clarified this is separate from additional county funds for the senior center); and Resolution 2026-27, authorizing $524,400 in city funds toward the Tedman Road bridge beautification over I-480 and authorizing the mayor to enter into a contract with the state for that improvement.
The meeting also included a first reading of Ordinance 2026-16 to sell a vacant land-bank parcel on Sunny Lane (parcel 433-03-053) to the Prince family trust for $5,000; the ordinance was presented on first reading with no suspension request recorded.
