The Sawyer County Zoning Committee voted Oct. 18 to approve CUP 24-20 for a proposed animal rescue and kennel operation (Saving Grace), attaching conditions that include securing state licenses, meeting signage requirements, placing the entrance off Dhide Road and limiting boarding/kennel capacity to a maximum of 65 dogs.
Staff described the request as a proposed rescue and boarding facility with a building footprint roughly 50 by 110 feet, a fenced dog-park area and potential future veterinary services; it was presented as an animal-rescue operation with foster support and nonprofit status. The Town board had approved the project and five adjacent property notices were sent; one objection citing noise and wildlife disruption was read into the record.
Applicant Lyn rungi (agent) said Saving Grace operates foster-based rescue work and that a permanent facility would help expand services including low-cost spay/neuter clinics for the region. Committee members probed maximum-capacity numbers and animal-welfare oversight. After deliberation, the committee set a conditional maximum capacity (65 dogs for boarding/kenneling) to provide a clear operating threshold while allowing the rescue and boarding elements to proceed.
The motion carried by roll call with the committee adopting staff findings and the listed conditions. Staff noted additional permitting and state approvals will be required if veterinary services are later added.
